New York Fashion Week SS27

New York Fashion Week kicked off the SS27 fashion month season with fighting spirit. Notions of quiet luxury are seemingly giving way to more joyful and vibrant attitudes. There is still a place for minimalism, of course, with Brandon Maxwell and Calvin Klein showing how pared-back outfits can be still be the strongest, while Kallmeyer highlighted the perfect balance between chic and casual.

Tory Burch turned heads with a particularly zingy use of colour with a collection that felt reminiscent of the 80s, while Khaite, known for more of a don't fuck with me edginess, showed a softer, more delicate side, playing with volume, florals and lace to give the NYC party girl a romantic touch.

Khaite SS27

Sultry cool girl meets pretty florals in a very interesting collision. Skirt lengths were long and silhouettes slinky, but the softness of the flowers added a dose of prettiness not usually seen with Khaite. If not toughened up with signature leather or sheer materials, which are brand codes by this point, softer looks were emphasised with bouncing ruffles or floating silks, but still very much for the chicest party girl.

Carolina Herrera SS27

The ultimate wardrobe for a sophisticated woman. Nods to the joyful glamour and confidence its founder was known for. To celebrate the brand's 45th birthday, Wes Gordon delivered a collection of showtopping looks for the chicest of women, showing us exactly why pretty is not an insult.

Calvin Klein SS27

Super minimal with a focus on clean lines, as we would expect of typical Calvin Klein - marking a recovery from the past few seasons. Simplicity ruled, with looks focusing on the basics for everyday and evening wear.

Brandon Maxwell SS27

Back to basics, the collection was pared back to focus on what really works, which turns out to include leather, layering and tailoring, with some denim and even nylon thrown in for good measure. The result was a very accessible and straightforward, but by no means boring, wardrobe.

Altuzarra SS27

Bold and joyful, the collection played with prints and shapes more than recent seasons. Hyper-feminine A-line skirts and pinks were pared back with leather or slouchy shirts and blazers to create a very colourful yet androgynous effect. Deliberately left a little undone as seen with the unfastened belts, tops and even loose hanging straps, it spoke to real women living real, but still glamorous lives.
